  • Go Titan!

The last of the Titan launch vehicles is set for liftoff from Vandenburg Air Force Base in Southern California in about an hour. This Titan IV is carrying a national security payload. If you're in Southern California, look toward Vandenberg at 11:04 PDT for a good show.

This bird has been providing solid performance for over 50 years. About 220 flights.

    Salute!

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I think MrFun is referring to the phallic symbols he is seeing in these rockets.

Titan IV Sad to see them end ... Perhaps we can now move on to a reusable, noncrashing space vehicle

Only 2 people have had phallic associations so far - MrFun and PH. What does that say about certain posters?

Correct, MrFun is a natural scientist

Actually, the Titan was more reliable, although admittedly probably much more expensive.

That's since 1955. You must be speaking of the entire Titan series. I lived near Vandeburg in the late 60's, and my dad was working on the Titan II's.

PS: We can't see a launch down here unless it takes place just after dusk. Then the contrail lights up really well in the dark sky. Calls come in from all over about the "UFO."

Yeah -- this is a serious, scholarly study I'm doing here.

Yes, I'm speaking of the entire Titan series, which began in the 50s with old V-2 hardware. This is the end of the entire program.

vandenberg is east/north-east of Santa Barbara at Point Conception so I'd say it is in Central California more then Southern California. Still nice though.
