The Chinese car market should do well enough just in China, especially given that the vast majority simply prefer to buy a new car rather than a used regardless of the cost.

Really? I haven't seen one yet haha. Of course, I haven't been here as long as you have. Your point about consumption is right on, though. Many times people will go into a banquet style restaurant, order more dishes than they could eat in a week, and leave most of the food there just to prove that they're now rich enough not to have to eat it. Oh capitalist decadence...
Maybe I'm just seeing the same one. It's yellow and I usually see it driving around the West Lake. They do drive some sweet cars around here though.

By all accounts the quality of cars coming out of Chinese factories, even foreign owned and operated factories, is far below western or Japanese standards. That said the price of labor is so low most companies will shift production there and just keep training and retraining until quality improves.
It's been a year or so but I recall seeing that the Average UAW line worker gets around $110,000 per year while the average Chinese auto worker gets around $7 per hour which is considered very good money. There is no way to go head to head with that kind of cost advantage.

A lot of stolen American cars end up in Latin America I presume, a good number of used Japanese cars ended up in Bolivia since there were LOTS of cars that had the steering wheels and gas pedal rewired on the left hand side but the odometer etc. etc. on the right hand side.
There's a definate Russian car/bicycle theft ring in korea that ships a lot of stuff out to Vladivostok from here.

Latin America is over run with American Cars though I did notice that in Central America cheap Korean Cars seem to be taking over. Many of the Arab states also have their roads dominated by American cars since the governments subsidize gas to make it absurdly cheap and the people have huge families so they want large cars.

Yea, in Germany, the ADAC's test report concluded that the car was rubbish. However, a test by TUV suggested that there's nothing wrong with the vehicle, and that the tests were tampered with.
As a result, there has been some speculation whether the test results of ADAC and ANWB have been influenced by the German automotive lobby
The TÜV tests have moderate criteria, which cars with lower standards can pass. After all they are mainly about functionality and ability to handle the vehicle and compliance with emission limits, and less about security of the driver. So I am not surprised, that the Landwind passed the TÜV tests; 15-20 years old European or Japanese cars can pass it too (if in good shape) and hence are still allowed to go on our roads.
General line of the thumb is:
- TÜV tests are about functionality and security of the car towards others (like: work the brakes? works the steering?). I am not sure if they even contain crash tests (may be, though)
- ADAC tests the full palette and gives recommendations to their members.
