DELL HELL - need help with PC power outage

I have a little problem with my PC

My kids were on a server, Runescape , when there was some kind of disruption. They panicked and turned the PC off at the power point.

Now with Dell computers, when there is an interruption to the power and you try and boot them up again, they don't boot - the fan sounds like its going to take off but you get no screen.

Anyone know how to recover it? Its happened before and in the past I've fixed it by removing all power sources and then reconnecting and rebooting but this time its not working. I'm still getting no screen and a screaming fan.

My PC is connected to a surge protection powerboard so no problems there. Help!

awwww... dunno about dell but if the power fan is running than the power supply should be fine, however some components might have died regardless...

try resetting the bios just for kicks if you have that jumper on that Dell motherboard... other than that ummm is the computer beeping at all. If nothing beeps than I'd expect the bios doesn't kick in so perhaps it needs to be reset.

"It had a virus" is what I say to people when I've fixed their computer up and it had a rather technical problem that I don't think they will understand. The system is usually cramped with spyware anyway, so it's not too far from the truth. On one hand, detailing the problem may make you come off as brainy, on the other hand, they may think you're pulling their leg.

That, or the tech plugged it in, it booted normally, and he formatted it and made up the virus story to charge you for an extra hour.

In order to format the tech would have had to been able to start it up, unless it involved taking out the HDD and hooking it to another box.
