Japan has a probelm with corruption as does Italy though most of the first world is less corrupt. This wasn' always so and largely it started in the late 1960's got better under Ford and Carter, worse under Reagan, better under Bush I & Clinton, and fell off the cliff under Bush II.

I'll give this to Carter the man never told a lie in his life and he is the most honest man we've had in office in a very long time. Bush I was pretty much a straight arrow too (in fact to straight for his own good). To bad his son is so commited to the pay to play politics we have today.

Japan has a probelm with corruption as does Italy though most of the first world is less corrupt.

I have a hard time buying this with the investigations into corruption in the Iraqi Oil-for-Food program still ongoing.

Since when is the UN a first world organization? The major problem with the UN is corrupt 3rd world dictators can worm there way into everything and this gives individual corrupt people the world over a chance to skim off the top.

I do contend that the current Republican leadership has raised corruption to an art form and that since they control all three branches of government they can run rough shoad over everyone. This absolute power has lead to absolute corruption and corruption on a scale never before seen. Halliburton alone got funneled $10 billion in no bid contracts. There were several other politically connected companies which got funded similiar amounts of money. While Tom Delay laundered millions.

They aren't the only ones, as I have pointed out many times before (yet you continue to stupidly troll), but this is orders of magnitude worse. The House Majority leader is going to jail, the Senate Majority leader has been lying about which stocks he owns and has been conducting insider trading, the Vice President didn't mention $8 million in stock profits from a company he funneled $10 billion to, the President (according to ABC) took part in meetings to expose a CIA agent (a felony), the White House procurment officer has been arrested for money laundering, and several lead Republican money raisers have been indicted for campaign finance violions worth millions of dollars. It is very fair to say this is a culture of corruption and that it is orders of magnitude worse then anything ever seen before.

I've always know that most politician are corrupt to some degree. Some more than others. (Carter may have been that 'one of a kind' type of guy)

But being a republican it is getting kind of depressing at each outing.

It's usually because of arrogance or stupidty and the current administration seems to have plenty of both.

I'm sure if the opposite party was in power we'd be seeing similar things but not quite as much, since their arrogance seems a bit less. But they do match up on the stupid side though.
