"The Muslim's blood cannot be spilled whatever his work or
place, while spilling the blood of the infidel, whatever his work or place, is authorised if he is not trustworthy," said the tape,

So they've finally condemned the Tower bombings, eh? Since a number of muslims worked there. Be nice if it was true...

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Unless, of course, they are heretics. Which is Sufi's and Sunni's for Shia's, Shia's and Sufi's for Sunni's, and just about everyone else in the Muslim world for Wahabi's. Islam is pretty harsh with heretics, just ask Salmon Rushdie.

"Baghdad - US-led forces have bombed eight bridges on the Euphrates River in western Iraq to stop insurgents using them, US military spokesperson Major General Rick Lynch said Thursday.

"We have been taking out portions of bridges with precision strikes," he told a news conference.

Of 12 bridges between the Syrian border and Ramadi, 110km west Baghdad, "four remain under control of the coalition forces and Iraqi forces after precision strikes on the others," he said.

"One of the vulnerabilities of this insurgency is freedom of movement," he added.

"We took out portions of these bridges to deny terrorists, foreign fighters and insurgents the capability to cross north to south or south to north across the Euphrates River."

The value of Iraqi infrastructure is now greater for the insurgents than us. We're still winning, though, right?

Bush declared victory in May 2003, on an aircraft carrier, remember?

The situation is pretty much a stalemate. We can't finish off the insurgents and the insurgents can't militarially defeat us. What's the final result? This continues until we get bored and go home or the Iraqi population radically changes it's position compared to the insurgents. One thing is clear though and that is victory isn't just around the corner as some would like us to believe.
