  • Proof we are winning the war on terror

We've intercepted a letter from Al Queda's #2 Ayman al-Zawahiri where he admits that Al Queda is low on money, has lost key leaders, and faces defeat in Afghanistan. He also writes that the tactics of suicide bombings are alienating the Muslim masses.

This is proof right there that we are making progress in the war on terror when Al Queda admits that they are losing!
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"

Hohum, even though the japanese practically lost the war in Midway, it took you 4 years to win the war.
These guys are barely losing, and despite alienating the muslims, as he claims, there are allways those willing to sacrifice their lives for a greater cause. They may be losing, but they will not lose. Nor can you win.

            diplomat is being deceitful...

the CNN story says the suicide bombings of muslim civilians is what MAY RISK alienating the prospective terrorists... not the act of suicide bombing in general...

Of course America is winning the war on terror. It's quite a simple campaign really.

Interesting letter. MOre interesting is what it signifies. The folks in Afghanistan are worried, so they write the folks in Iraq..as if, the folks in Iraq are now the lead. They don't seem to be complaining about money, nor do they talk about being close to defeat.

So imagine if there was no al-Zarqawi to write to, no one with a large network of insurgents on the field right now... then we would trully be ahead.

So Bush is right, Iraq is the central front. Of course, had he not created that front at all, we might be done with the "war" against AQ already.

                Yup, those genius neo-cons.

Terrorism is not a military problem, you can't fix it with military operations.

There are plenty of non military problems that can be fixed with military operations.

How is terrorism a military problem? You are not facing an army. You are facing very angry people.

If Al-Qaida's losing, that means all terrorists are losing?

                          Well, now I know.

I think the only meaningful news in this is that they are getting low on money.. but that's good news definitely. The suicide bombings was nothing new, that it alienates muslims from them, or that many key leaders have been captured/killed. These means nothing really but that the resources are getting lower, that's more significant IMO.

However, they can always get more, it's not like it's up to the stock markets if they can make money, so they can always get more money, but it certainly affects some of their operational abilities if they are low on it now and that's good.

Not succeeding in Afghanistan is really not that much of breaking news. Afghanistan was decently succesful, though it's not over yet, but as mission, I think it was pretty OK.

                            Low on cash however,

there are plenty of other fronts - there was yet another bombing in Bali the other day, and the London bombings apparently were run out of Pakistan.

The request for funds doesnt necessarily mean Zawahiri is strapped - just that he doesnt want more cash than necessary held at the "franchise" level.
