horrors, you should say a few hail marys(or the cultural equivalent) and hang your head in shame

You see the turtle isn't just an ugly four legged sea reptile, its kind of the litmus paper of our sea's, along with corals and plancton/krill. Climate change has happend and continues to happen - this time its just happening too fast, so we will loose a whole section of our eco system over the coming years/decades and that is really when the penny will drop rather too late.

This is different then. I was just making the point that we shouldnt care too much(or at all) about turtles as long as their extinction doesnt somehow damage humanity.

So if you're talking about serious damage to the entire ecosystem that may cause us to end up without fish, then yes, it's horrible.

But if it's only some turtles dying for the sake of human progress... Well, tough luck for the turtles.
"human progress", what is it? Occupying every planet in the universe and filling it up with humans like insectoid zergs?
We are humans, because we do not only care for the good of ourselves, but also the good of others and thus we care about turtles.

Yes, together with other goals such as having all those humans well fed, free and happy.

That's only one attitude to life and I doubt that had this attitude were commonplace throughout human history, we would've been sitting in air-conditioned apartments on comfortable chairs 3,500km away from each other and exchanging opinions.

"For starters, sea level will be rising."

Here's an idea for you. Go get a glass and fill it with some ice. Now add water. Wait until it's melted.

Do you see water all over the surface?

Because ice floating in water displaces just as much water as it produces if the ice is being melted.

Of course this doesn´t apply if the water ice covering Antarctica is melting as it lies on top of a giant land mass (and therefore in its frozen state isn´t able to displace any water).
If the Ice cover of antarctica melts, sea levels will rise

Put something in the glass then to act as a land mass. Put the ice on top of it, then leave to melt.

                Same effect - no spillage.

The Antarctic landmass does not float on water.

Whats the Crisholm (fictional) book that questions that there is any significant, long term climate change?

In fact if you put a flat piece of ice on top of the whole water, the level of the whole thing will actually lower as he explained.

Stewie thinks that there is no land mass at the Arctic.

Your model is wrong - it should be :

Put something in glass to act as landmass that sticks above the rim of the glass.

Fill water to the rim of the glass.

Place ice on top of "landmass".

When it melts - lots of spillage.

Doubt as much as you want, but be aware that you are just speculating. I for one doubt we'll be more happy when we are the single living creature in the universe when actually a lot of our struggle is to find something in others which is similar to us. There's no point in eradicating everything that is not us, besides the fact that it's racist.
