  • Computer Question

I have a pretty old amd-570 or something like that. Inside are 2 fans and a wheel that spins attached to a circuit board. The wheel is making a sound like its unbalanced or the bearing is going out. Anyone know what the wheel is and if its no biggie to replace?

This is not the exact same mainboard but it shows the wheel I'm talking about...sort of... In the lower left quadrant there is a yellow wheel. I think its the same thing I see in my computer thats making the noise

That just looks like a fan for a chip. You maybe able to replace it depending on the design of the board. You may also be able to oil the fan.

Berzerker - I had a huge amount of data corrupted by a stuck chipset fan - the one in the picture. Get one of those canned air blowers and blow out that small fan - it may be utterly filled with dust. While you are at it, blow out your entire case, I try to do that evey two years or so.
