  • Serenity the movie - NO SPOILERS PLEASE

Can't believe there's no thread on this yet.

Went to a 1pm showing on opening day with my wife. Whedon has done an outstanding job in extending his ousted TV series into a viable, franchise-worthy film.

This movie is scifi as it should be. Well written, great art direction, story-driven, imaginative, and with a sense of humor. There's a sense of continuation from Firefly, but this film lives on its own terms.

    Highly recommended.

I thought it was great also

I hope that they make a sequal at some point (one of my freinds hoped they didn't, he said that sequals are always worse..)

The door is open to a sequel. It will be driven by dollars, pure and simple.

I think it is planned as a trilogy.

Hey! Ming you're the media guy here. How realistic would a series revival be if the movie does well?

Hard to say... Again, there is talk of 3 movies. If the first one does above average or great, there will probably be two more. If all three movies then do SUPER GREAT, they will probably consider more movies. If they make solid money, and do above average, they might see the opportunity to give it another chance on TV. If they could milk another two seasons on TV... there would then be strong revenue in the syndication/rerun market. With only one season, the revenue is very limited, and you really need about three seasons to make killer money in reruns. With many TV shows, thats where the money is really made. Shows like ER don't make money unitl they sell the episodes in syndication because the cost of each new show can't be made back with one original run, then one rerun during the summer.

I know I created a thread ripping the TV show because of it being in the future and they were still using weapons from our era... but I have to say, this show is growing on me and I'm looking forward to the movie.
To us, it is the BEAST.

I said in another thread, it's unlikely (at best). Some actors have moved on to other projects, and Nathan Fillion is about to break through in his movie career.

Unless you are taking about the show with a somewhat different cast.

Of course, as Sava said , the "sci-fi" aspect was not innovative at all.
It was still very entertaining, way more than I expected.

Yeah... there would probably have to be some changes... But TV goes where the money can be found.

If they think they get the numbers... it's better than developing new programs, which generally suck and lose money.

Again... it's all about the money

Whether or not there is a sequel has little to do with the cast, since all of them bar Nathan Fillion are signed on for three movies (and even Fillion might be as well). The more important consideration is box office performance, which is still looking uncertain right now.

Edit: Whoops, didn't read the post properly. Yes, a series revivial is highly unlikely.

You have no faith in the power of money. If the networks smell money, they will try a proven product, even if half the cast has to be replaced
