  • How do I insert the characters for set membership and union into an MS Word document?

I go to the "Insert... Symbol" box, but I can't find the characters for set membership or set union anywhere. Strangely enough, set intersection shows up just fine.

Use the Character Map accessory to look for it.

Do you have MS Equation installed?

      If so, then

      Insert
      Object
      Microsoft Equation 3.0
And one of the drop down menus is the set-theoretic stuff

The regular symbol set doesn't appear to have a union.

Install Equation (assuming you still have the CD)

It's not showing up there either -- I get the same characters as with the Symbol dialog.

Yup, that does the trick. Thanks.

Despite the awesomeness of this thread, I suppose that it can now be closed.

You could try other typefaces. I am pretty sure I have seen the union symbol.
