            In Iraq.

BUT NOT PART OF AL QUEDA.

Did the name change really make any substantive difference in the way Zarqawi's operation was run?

Rita should have rained brains over Texas, but as it appears, it's been water again.

By the way, the flag and statue look great, but the picture is still not patriotic enough. It cleary lacks an eagle!

Brains to Texans are like pearles before a swine. They don't need them and they don't want them.

Yes, it gave him a much wider recuiting base, an increased level of credibility in the Muslim world, and actual alliance with Al Queda.

Zarqawi had absolutley NOTHING to do with Al Queda before we invaded.

Nice try to dismiss it as a "name change" though. Man, read actual news instead of Reactionary websites and talkshows.

He and Ansar al Islam (iirc) were obviously considered a problem before the war, hence the destruction of their base and pursuit of their survivors by the Special Forces / Pesh Merga in the very early days of the war.

Not really. Bush was trying to claim that Iraq was a breading ground for terrorists and so Saddam had to be over thrown. The problem is the bases were in a part of Iraq we told the Iraqi government they couldn't go and which the Kurds were to busy fighting their civil war to police.

The attack on the bases was a pretty lame made of TV event in which no one was captured and which everyone had left days before head, yet, there was Rumsfield and Cheney claiming it was proof Saddam was training terrorists and was about to unleash nuclear destruction on NYC. It was all just another bad attempt to justify a war which had no real justification and everyone but the hacks ever bought it.

Except being the leader of a terrorist group that was widely believed to be affiliated with Al Qaeda, of course.

At any rate, I find it ridiculous when people try to draw bright lines between "Al Qaeda" and groups like Ansar al-Islam. Given the nebulous nature of Islamic terrorism and Al Qaeda itself, it seems rather silly to limit our concern solely to terrorist groups that choose to include "Al Qaeda" in their names.
