You see? Romans have contributed to Western civilization in other ways we usually don't think of.

The whole "you're lying" thing, over and over again, forcibly reminded me of a young Tom Riddle: "Tell the truth!"

The young actor portraying Octavian really seems to have a great handle on who he was (or, at least, what he thinks he was). I remember he was just as great in Master and Commander; has he been in anything else?

So, I take it this is better than ABC's Empire?

I haven't heard any Classicists baying for blood yet, so it can't be that bad.

It's a pretty good show, it looks amazing in HDTV.

I'll have to say, after watching the first two episodes of Empire with a friend, we both agreed it wasn't worth the hard disk space it was on.

And this, on a 300GB HD.

I guess we can take that as a no then?

Downloaded 5 first eps. As Asher says it looks absolutely stunning on 960x528 HD resolution. I must say I'm positively surprised. I though such an accurate account of life in late republican Rome would have been too much for a nation so plagued about Janets titty. Its wonderful to see an accurate description of Rome as it probably was, a filthy town full of opportunists, brothels, corrupt politicians and ancient rituals. Even the temples have colour on their marbels as opposed to the dull whiteness of Washington DC or any European capital. Who the **** came up with the idea that it was all supposed to be white anyway!?

The vulgarity particularly pleases me and I think that the HBO has captured the spirit of Rome splendidly. The actors are very, very convincing and the plot seems like something out of a history book

Overall a great show, just wondering why Caesars bisexual tendencies havent been exlored as of yet. Also no show about Rome can be truely satisfying without the actors acting in Latin.

Go Octavianus, show the *******s who the real citizen #1 is!

You know there really is no point in watching HBO if its not in High Def anymore . HD just makes everything better .

I've found myself becoming a bit of a snob about it...if it's not in highdef I don't watch it.

I'll have to make an exception for some of the hockey games...

Yeah, like 80% of my TV viewing seems to be HiDef now. Though it'll be really nice to get ESPN2 and OLN (who now has hockey in the US) HD channels (ESPN2 already has HD, but not where I am yet, and OLN is launching an HD channel soon).

We Europeans dont have the luxury of HDTV yet so we cant afford such snobbism, atm anyway. I would still love it even if it was vhs-quality. Pollo+Octavian, now theres a tag team for you!
