This is the biggest storm ever recorded on Earth. It could cover the entire Western half of the United States. This monster hit Japan in 1979.

If Rita is bigger than katrina will there be some Texans who take a sort of perverse pride in that?
I hardly see this as humorous. I am almost sure the TEXANS dont give a flying Fu** if the storm is larger only that it doesnt kill a lot of folks. If i offend you pardon me. But i find your comments in the up coming disaster as tasteless. And For the record news reports claim the refineries will be hit hard. They have already started to shut down and relocte the workers better fill ur tanks today before the prices rise to 3.00 and 4.00 bucks again

Oh come on, that was funny. I don't envy you what you're about to face, but humor in the face of adversity isn't a bad thing. You're on the away side, so the storm won't be as intense. I've been through these. Don't be so tense, which is not the same thing as not taking it seriously.
Anyway, if you're in a low lying area, I strongly recommend getting to higher ground. If you can get your hands on a generator, that would be good. Life without electricity is a pain in the ass! Make sure your cell phones are charged and paid up. Make sure you have water and canned goods. If the winds are that strong near you, you might consider going outside for a few minutes to experience one of nature's wonders. Just keep an eye out for flying debris.

Texans aren't like Cajuns.
We'll toss that damn storm back out where it came from.

I actually missed this one by about six years, having moved from League City to just north of Dallas. My brother and his wife are having to deal with the bogged-down highways, and want to come stay up here; I of course refused them, labeled them as cowards and told them to stay and fight.
While it would cause a great deal of economic pain in the long run it might be better for the nation as a whole if a few oil facilities were knocked out for a couple of weeks. If that's what it takes to get the government to inact a sound energy policy which decreases our consumption of fossil fuels over the long haul then that might be worth a quarter of economic pain.
Waiting on uncle, aunt, cousins and all coming from Houston.
Cellular phones are jammed up, as one might expect.
Can't reach them. Just wait.
