I can't recall hearing anything by them... As well as liking the divine Kate Bush I was still a punk fan from the beginning- reading about the musical preferences of people like Lydon and Siouxsie Sioux made the reasons I might be predisposed to like them obvious later- the founder members of the Banshees met at a Roxy Music gig, apparently.

I enjoyed P.I.L. more than 'The Sex Pistols' though, because I'd always liked electronica and experimental music, and 'Metal Box' and the singles 'Death Disco' and 'Memories' were favourites of mine. They gave a blistering performance on 'The Old Grey Whistle Test' too, which lingers long in the memory:

OK, so OGWT missed the Sex Pistols but they made up for it eventually. Before Radiohead's "Kid A" there was of course John Lydon's Public Image Limited, seen here doing a stonking "Careering" from the "Metal Box" LP. Buy it if only to see them in their prime. A young David Byrne fronts Talking Heads through "Psycho Killer", Blondie perform "Presence Dear", Iggy Pop rips his shirt off in the first 10 seconds of "Im Bored" to show off his scars and the Ramones show that the best songs dont have to go over 2 minutes...

                    This morning I listened to:

                    Cabaret Voltaire: Sensoria 12" mix

David Bowie: Sister Midnight (Vancouver Rehearsal, 1976)

                    Kraftwerk: Ohm Sweet Ohm

Talking Heads: The Great Curve (Live)

                    King Pleasure: Jazz Jump

                    Disco Inferno: Lost In Fog

Marvin Gaye: What's Going On (Live, Kennedy Centre)

                    St. Germain: Sentimental Mood

Brian Eno & David Byrne: Qu'ran

Massive Attack & Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan: Mustt Mustt
Vive la liberte. Noor Inayat Khan, Dachau.
