Today, the Senate voted down an independent commission into hurricane Katrina, along party lines. Tellingly, David Vitter (R-Louisiana) chose not to vote.

See, that's where you'd be wrong. My understanding is that the only commission that will investigate this will be one set up entirely by Bush. Which is great if you want only state and local to be found to blame for the debacle, but if you want the truth..."Remember, there's good stuff in American culture, too. If I get motivated enough, I'll link to a Knight Ridder investigative story which found that the director of Homeland Security, not the head of FEMA, was the one with the authority to declare a national emergency *before* Hurricane Katrina struck land. IOW, "Brownie" wasn't the right guy to sack ... just a figurehead, really.
