Today, the Senate voted down an independent commission into hurricane Katrina, along party lines. Tellingly, David Vitter (R-Louisiana) chose not to vote.

See, that's where you'd be wrong. My understanding is that the only commission that will investigate this will be one set up entirely by Bush. If I get motivated enough, I'll link to a Knight Ridder investigative story which found that the director of Homeland Security, not the head of FEMA, was the one with the authority to declare a national emergency *before* Hurricane Katrina struck land. IOW, "Brownie" wasn't the right guy to sack ... just a figurehead, really.
