  • Will you use Vista or Switch to Linux?

It looks like Vista, with it's heavy handed DRM and 14 different versions, among other things is going to expidite my shift to Linux. Do you feel the same?

I will gladly use Vista though probably not immediately when it comes out.

I already use linux enough at work and school; I don't exactly want to use it when I come home too.

Dunno yet for sure. Depends whether theres a proper port of Linux distro for my laptop. Probably will use dual boot anyway. I voted for Vista though.

if DRM is going to be as bad as I hear, I am going to have to switch to linux.

Oh, wait, I am still running W98.

I actually want to get some work done and have fun.

At the moment the count is 7, should be enough.

I'm going to continue using XP for awhile.

Btw: you don't mention that MS advises 2G of MEM (not just diskspace) to run Vista!

okay, so 14 was a bit of an exageration. the current versions are:

                      Starter Edition
                      Home Basic Edition
                      Home Premium Edition
                      Windows Vista Professional Edition
                      Small Business Edition
                      Enterprise Edition
                      Ultimate Edition

i'll bet computer retailers like dell, hp and gateway are pi$$ed

Microsoft is expected to recommend that the "average" Longhorn PC feature a dual-core CPU running at 4 to 6GHz; a minimum of 2 gigs of RAM; up to a terabyte of storage; a 1 Gbit, built-in, Ethernet-wired port and an 802.11g wireless link; and a graphics processor that runs three times faster than those on the market today.

I had bolded the memory part but after rereading, I might as well bold the whole thing so I didn't bother.

Versus Linux with infinite different versions and zero standardizations?

I use Linux on a regular basis, and the answer is -- of course I won't switch to Linux.

Oh yeah, I'm sure they're incredibly pissed.

Not only can they include an uber-cheap windows Starter Edition on the $300-ish PCs, but they can also charge a fortune for the Ultimate Edition on the overpriced XPS gaming boxes.

Where do you think the pressure for the low cost and premium editions of Windows came from.
