  • I need some htmlish help for making my webpage compatible with opera.

My website is fully compatible in Mozilla and Internet Explorer.

There is an index.html, but it is in german so to make things easier I thought I'd link to the english version, besides my German is so poor lately that you'd all make fun of me.

I put in a browser sniffer script cause that is the only thing that will load in opera, and it gives instructions on how to enable my website in opera, however the user shouldn't have to do this. I think the de.geocities server keeps inserting some incompatible javascript which Opera can' t load the frames at all, but I'm not sure.

Oddly enough the frames in Opera will load seperatly, any ideas on how to fix this. These are the two english frames:

EDIT: looks like I can't paste my html code in here even using the code function, sigh. Open page in source I guess .

I can't help you, but to say that your escape the squares is flawed as well. This is a shot from Firefox (1.0.6).

There is no word for patch in german - it's patch. Flecken are "stains" and the menu is called "Datei", not Akte.
      Vorwählermenü = Auswahlmenü

Es ist wirklich einfach zu tun

Yeah upgrade to a newer version of firefox and it will fix it... works fine in:

        1.5b1, or Deer Park 1.6a1.

Your CSS and HTML code are messed up. You put HTML 4 Transitional in a frameset, and there is no CSS statement that affects the scroll bar AFAIK.

          Clean up the stuff first.

BTW, using an user agent sniffer is an arse backwards idea. All you have to do is code to standards, and any standard-compliant browser will render your site properly.

Of course, then you need to add the IE-specific hacks, but that's life.

well I don't quite know what's wrong, I tried making a test page with frames and no coding just text, and that wouldn't load in opera, WTF?!

Ok, as long as Thorn doesn't mind me butting in on his tech help thread, I've got a question too.

                This page: http://www.youthrights.org/video.shtml

I've got this page set up to play different video clips from the organization. It works just fine in IE, but in Firefox it starts playing automatically. I haven't tested it in Opera.

I'm not much of a coder, someone else actually set up the video thing, and its over my head already. But does anyone know how I can tweak it so the videos don't play till you hit play?

                  Thorn,

Try specifying your DTD to be Frameset instead of Transitional.

                  Ozzy,

That's some horrible code you have there...

Anyway, I took a look at it and it does say "autostart=1," which appears to tell the browser to start the video automatically. If that is the case, it means Firefox is doing it right and IE is not (what else is new?). Maybe you can try changing the flag to 0 to see what happens.

                    Cool, that worked.

                    Thanks man.

I saw this: and I switched that to false, but it didn't have any effect. I didn't notice the other one. That was the real one I guess, heh.

Ok, how about a trickier question. Same page: http://www.youthrights.org/video.shtml

There is a big white gap at the bottom of the page in firefox that isn't there in IE. The bottom of the sidebar should be the bottom of the page.

                          Not the faintest idea.

I suggest you start by turning on the border of the outermost table, to see if the layout is borked by using Firefox.
