  • Help Kid buy stock

I'm playing a stock market game for Principles of Finance class. I'm so broke I can't even pay attention to the market. That's suppose to be funny in case you didn't get it. Can anyone help me? I can get my $20 fee back plus $30 winnings if I win.

Start screaming "profit is unfair tax!" over and over again in class. Maybe they'll give you $50 to stop.

        Buy low. Sell high.

        Glad to help.

Seriously though, if you want some answers you need to give some parameters as to what the contest entails. For instance, how long is is and how much play money would you use? Also is your goal to simply win (or do you have any secondary goals like to get a positive return ). . . You have to understand that stock pics would be very different if I were tryiing to make money with a good rate of return (and low risk). here my assumption is that you are willing to take a LOT of risk ( including the risk of huge losses) since your goal is to beat everyone else. For this type of game I would research a number of very small companies and pick a very small number of these. Risky as hell and not at all what I would do with real money but I'm guessing that what makes a good investment would not necessarily be the type of stocks that would win this contest.

My analogy is that you are in a home run contest so you are not going to care about your batting average

100,000 but I can by on margin. I'll have to see how much.

                  Wal Mart
                  Tyson Foods
                  Acxiom
                  Murphy Oil
                  Dillard's
                  JB Hunt

No seriously, companies I would really pick if I were you:

                  Murphy Oil
                  Toyota
                  Raytheon

No idea on any of their stocks, but they're all solid as far as growing and making money...

                    Thanx Mr Mitchell

Oh and I have 200,000 buying power. I need to make a buy soon. I think I'll just buy a little right now, and leave the rest in cash. Just to show that I'm doing the assignment. I'll try to find some research on Toyota. Oh, that reminds me. What is the best way to research stocks? Can I do it on-line?

Wal Mart makes me think actually, but I should look for small cap I think. What if the economy doesn't do good though? Then small cap might not be good.

Pick a stock, start a rumour that they're going to be bought out, then sell the stock. Worked in France a couple of months ago. Even got the government to add creedence to the rumours.

Buy the rumour, sell the fact.

What kind of Market Cap am I looking for?

I'm too busy to do a lot of research. I'm going to go all out on a very volitile small cap Home Health Care stock that looks like its on the upswing.

edit: Oh, I just found out that I can only invest 10,000 max in anyone security. I guess I need to find more. What industries do you guys suggest? Maybe that's an easier question.
