Yup. Pork is big in Ontario (and no cracks about Ottawa).

Then there are regional favourites like perogies in Sask and Man, maybe Alta?

Sure, "techumseh". It consists of cod cheeks, cod tongues, salted cod, salted seal, salted rabbit, etc, etc, etc... I get force fed this garbage every year during our yearly visit to the "in-laws" on the Rock. I pretend to enjoy it, but I really and truly don't. Its gag worthy if anything ever deserved that title. But it is a distinct cuisine none the less.

No, because one of my aims was being economical.
The poutine I had was very nice, from a place on St. Laurent. I actually didn;t see many of the local Montreal chains thought, like Mr. Steer.

As for a comparison with NYC at the price range I was going for, there realy was no difference in quality. In terms of cheap good coffee and baked goods, Montreal and its french influences have NYC beat. I did not like MOntreal bagels that much actually, a bit too stringy and sweet for my tastes.

The last meal I had out was actually at a small Lebanese place on Crescent (had just come from the Pearl Jam concert at the Bell Center, which got out at 11:30pm), and actually the stuff I had there was a bit different from lebanese food I had in Chicago, and I liked the Montreal stuff better.

I would certainly consider living in MOntreal though, I liked almost all of what I saw. Cute subway system as well.
