  • What will happen?

    When we die.

I'm fairly certain there's nothing more after we're done here. We will slip into non-existence quietly and unknowingly, much like we appeared into existence when we first saw the light of day. Our consciousness will be gone.

Part of me however, on some level, would like to think of the great unknown as a place for seeing again the people I've loved, if not for eternity then for some unspecified amount of time. This is more of a feel good thing for me, something for keeping my peace of mind. I have a hard time believing it will actually come true, but it's nice to envision. In the same way, I like to think of my loved ones who've passed away, as being in a nice place now, not just having vanished.

Sorry in advance for the poll options, if some obvious ones are missing, or some are overlapping. I'm not very knowledgable on these spiritual things. I put in the ones I could think of, and made it multiple choice.

        I'm not going to die.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Hmm, seeing (at the moment) 11 out of 11 votes for 'nothingness', maybe it'd have been more interesting to hear how certain people felt about 'nothingness' as opposed to.. well, anything else.

For me, if I were to quantify my level of belief in 'nothingness', I'd say around 80%. On a good day, I have a 20% suspicion there's something funny going on around that corner..

Vien dopo tanta irrision la Morte.
            E poi?
            E poi?
            La Morte è il Nulla!
            è vecchia fola il Ciel!

[After so much derision comes Death.
            And then?
            Death is Nothingness
            And heaven an old lie.]

Not even nothingness. To me that implies a sort of awareness without sensation.

I took it to mean the "state of there being nothing," which would include awareness, ergo oblivion.
