to lower % of crime by getting in people that dont have a bone out for this country nor have they been brought up in a collapsed society where violence and crime rules and then try to export it.

Those French b@st@rds!!!
I love all peoples and all races, but we're talking horse eating cheese paring soap-eschewing porcelain manufacturers here people !!!!!
Of course I jest- but it is interesting to see how William the B@st@rd's portrayal changes in British history books over time, and also according to the historian's own viewpoint.
There's a lot of sympathy for Harold Godwinsson, but my goodness I'm grateful for the infusion of Romance languages into English, as anyone who's wended their weary way through alliterative annals in Anglo-Saxon will agree.
Cecelia Holland wrote a very good 'what if' for the second volume of 'What If' scenarios, imagining the failure of the Norman invasion-
"If Harold Godwinson had won the Battle of Hastings, A republic of Europeans could have appeared on the western continent 500 years before 1776- and without a revolution.
And without the destruction of the native peoples. The Norse and Danes enjoyed a slight technological edge over the native tribes they encountered, but hardly a decisive one. They would have had to work out some modus vivendi with the tribes they found in the new world, and in one nation, perhaps, the mohawk, they would have met a people much like themselves- enterprising, aggressive, with a certain inclination to popular government. Perhaps a blended culture might have arisen in the dark forests and lakes of the New World- a Viking-Mohawk republic, the westernmost edge of the Empire of the North."
Cecelia Holland, 'Repulse at Hastings'
I wish I could find the reference, but I seem to recall there being a discovery of the skull of an African child in an Anglo-Saxon burial in Suffolk....Vive la liberte. Noor Inayat Khan, Dachau.
...patriotism is not enough. I must have no hatred or bitterness towards anyone. Edith Cavell, 1915
