I am courious what is the cut off mark for poverty now days? To me poor means no food no water no electricty etc. If the fact that the reference to poor is no cable and no cell phone is the basis then i hardly call that poor. And I must say thes poor folks need to help themselves. If they want out of the ghetto then tasks must be made to at least an attempt to better them selves. I witnessed a application for food stamps from a lady that had more gold around her neck then i have had in my entire life. Not to mention the diamond rings on every one of her finger including thumbs. I thought girllll wtf man u got hungry kids hock that bling bling and feed them babies

        Here's the table.

$9,645 for one person in a household up to $39,048 for 9. All public assistance, Social Security, etc. counts toward this figure. Capital gains don't count toward it.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Mrs. Tuberski - the problem is for that one b*tch whose kids were less important than her jewelry (for her), how many working poor have you known that bust their buns, etc. to get ahead but simply cannot pull it off. Lack of day care, lack of help collecting child support, graduating schools illiterate or mental disabilities can make it hard to get ahead. Having a disabled child can make it almost impossible. I'll take every sod who doesn't deserve help and come up with hard working, struggling examples who do.

The problem is how do you nail that b*tch and still help out the hard working poor. It's actually why I oppose cash and food stamps, and instead support vouchers and WIC style programs. They are much harder for people like that to abuse, and can give the hard working poor a hand-up to get out of poverty. I'm also for making it easier for the non-custodial parent to cut custody in cases like that.

                      That's true.

For every lady like that Mrs. T, there are others going through the supermarket checkout with their food stamps, and/or government debit card, and feel humiliated doing it because they know people are staring at them and thinking stuff like, "get a damn job you lazy SOB!"

Guys you dont have to tell me about being poor. I lived it when i was going through nursing school. My ex husband and i just seperated i had my kids was working 40 hours a week in 3 days and going to school full time. My ex didnt give me a dam dime. I applied for food stamps and was denied cause i made to much money. I was like wtf my phone was turned off electric was bout to be cut off and i had no cell phone. End of the line for me was when my daughter who was 4 lost a tooth and i didnt have a dollar to put under her pillow. I took a second job finished school and now i am in the same boat. I find my self looking for a different type of work and try to figure if i want to go back to school

Mrs. Tuberski, have you ever gotten any child support? The reason I ask is that with many of the law changes it might be easier for you to collect. Even if you don't need it now, think about it as the kid's college fund. Plus I have a personal loathing for bastards like that.
