A lad at my school played football for England schoolboys, and got decent A level results, but that was the exception, rather than the rule. All the other members of the football team were dumb, and only allowed back into 6th form because they were good at football.

At least at my school, a lot of people who own glasses never wear them for style reasons. They don't realize that they look just as stupid squinting at the board all the time. So I guess the best answer for you is that smart people don't give a damn about whether they look nerdy, or whatever the stupid football squinting football guys think about bifocals. They're mostly black, so maybe focalphobia is cultural around here. The only AA celebrity I associate with glasses is Spike Lee, someone who is not really known as a terribly fashionable dresser.

It means your school is in a area where natural selection is going to wipe out. Nothing more.

One of the guys in my class in school got 94% on his final exams (2nd in the year, of 320ish people) and is a two time olympian.

I have competed at national level in basketball and rowing, and have also done a PhD at Cambridge University.

            I don't wear glasses.

So i guess you're not the only one.

What makes this statement scarier is that many other Chinese think in these terms as well.

You will all soon find out that green-eyed men are underrepresented in the area of eyeglass-wearing, how is that for superiority?

I understand every word in that sentence, but I can't parse it. Try rewriting it so that it makes sense.

He means that if you live in an area where nobody is sporty, even the weak (whom natural selection would select against at some point) look good.

Despite the poor grammar it was still intelligible.

You can't parse it. You speak as if you were a computer.

The word parse, and its meaning, predates the invention of the computer

Which is silly, since he must be talking about the entire United States... we have one of the top crew teams in the country

Yeah, but how many people care about what you're better at?

Track is probably third to football and basketball in terms of care...tennis and swimming are getting on down there...

Maybe the thing your school is really exhibiting is that, since team sports like football and basketball are sucked at, no one at your school is good at teamwork skills?
