I never see anyone here talking about the markets, or giving tips, or any of that. Does it ever happen? Is it allowed?

It used to, but since the blow up of 2000-2001 there is not much interest. One can only say diversify and rebalance so many times before people start to tune out.

      I just started in it.

my goal is to just make bits here and there over time, hopefully selling when the stock makes me enough that i've paid off my commision.

right now i have my eye on Tucows on the TSX. If I had the chance I woulda bought in yesterday and i'd be up 20% today. Oh well.

Speculating on stocks short term (weeks or even months) is not too different from gambling in a Casino. You can get lucky from time to time, but the long term rate of return is less than 1 (because of the trading commissions).

          i guess i'm a gambler.

I wouldn't be looking at something as risky as tucows if i didnt know it for so long and have high hopes for it tho.

anyone else have an opinion on it? or other suggestable stocks?

You could try KMP. I think they will profit from rising energy prices and they have a very high yield.

I have stayed balanced and in energy mainly for most of the past year. I am up quite a bit. heck I think I gained over 20% in the alst 6 months

Unfortunately most of my best information (about smaller companies where you can make a lot quickly) is insider stuff that I can't use. Heck I have even been precluded from investing in a couple of companies where I didn't actually know any insider stuff (our law firm maintains a list of precluded investments which I have to check before investing in an individual stock)

Well, for Canadians, here's my surprise pick: Domtar. Yes, Domtar.

Softwood, a currently crappy p & p business, and some other miscelleneous 'wood' related products.

You might think, wtf?, but they are undervalued, a big permanent company, focussing on their core profitable business.

Also, they WILL (IMHO) get a government aid package/restructuring dealy so buy now before the restructuring.

They pay "OK" dividends. If you're lucky it could go as low as $8.00 (Lucky for buyers that is).

So, give us the list so we can be sure to stay away from it too
