You speak of the majority of webdesigners; but there are those who have to be all-rounders. Webdesigners who can program and are creative with art (and can use Flash, Photoshop, etc) are hard to come by.Originally posted by

There's definitely such as thing as website programmer and another thing as website deginer, and being one does not make one automatically the other.
The programmers write code that give the sites functionality, but do not necessarily make it look good, or even legible. Classic example would be some of those 1990s era websites with loads of javascript on a blinking orange background.
On the other hand, website designers may simply be using frontpage or some other program that does all the code writing after they've dragged around pictures on the screen.
I write my own scripts, but of course, as most programmers will do, they will look at other's work to see how they did theirs. Same goes for graphics, you need that inspiration. I am stronger on the graphics side, but my programming side is catching up. So far I am sufficient in PHP, ASP, Javascript and Perl.be freeComment
