  • Fred Bassett, the search for humor.

    http://splu.wis-kino.com/splufilms/bassett.htm

Inspired by another forum. For years I've seen this completely mindless strip in my local papers. No one I know finds it the least bit funny or humorous. My question is, how in the world could someone actually put this in their own newspaper? What kind of world are we living in when a man can make money by making things like this?

Things are only funny when placed in comparison with their setting.

You have to bear in mind that in his original British incarnation, Fred appears in the "Daily Mail". Pictures of starving orphans with AIDS are funny in comparison to that.

It's in my daily paper, and I agree, that is one truly horrible cartoon.

But then my mom likes it, it's right next to the daily crossword puzzle, and I guess for some people it provides a sense of familiarity and, I'd have to guess, a very mild sensation of comic relief.

I never saw the point in it.

It's a strip for dog lovers. I think if you're into dogs then you find it funny.

Says quite a lot about dog lovers, doesn't it.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

Yeah, dog lovers... kinky. Sorry.. I HAD TO!

I think that strip is kind of stupid. I think it doesn't work, that 'joke' would only work best in television, with only people in it. That's it, like a short sketch. That's the only place it comes to live, however even then it would suck.

What can I say, this person who makes these comics is pretty stupid. Prolly a dog lover too.

See, I told you. There's a price to pay for such crimes. Not only dead, but long time dead.

You have to admit it's pretty good for having been written by the not so recently deceased.
