  • ASVAB question

So I picked up an ASVAB study guide, as per the Air Force recruiter's suggestion.

Ok, I've graduated college but the shtuff in there I haven't touched since sophmore year in high school. In the guide, they have stuff like genetics, fulcrums, biochemistry, and other great things that I have totally forgotten and I'm basically re-learning.

Is this biochem, genetics and Alg 3 stuff even going to be in there?

I plan on taking it in a week and a half.

genetics? biochem? I don't remember anything like that in there.

Just your usual verbal, mathematical, basic science stuff. Stuff you'll see on an SAT but easier for the most part.

they will have mechanical stuff like pictures of pulleys and gears and will ask you questions on which direction the rope is moving or the gears are turning. There may be some basic electrical questions as well.

I took it a few years ago, thought about joining the reserves.

          I didn't even study.

I'm an idiot and I scored a 99 on it.

Which is the highest you can get.

Just take the damn thing, yes it has those things, but nothing that common sense won't let you figure out.

Ok, I was having problems on the factoids part. Yes, I'm bad, but to justify that, I've been studying facts about prisoner internment and the costs per food per day for years now (college).

And algebra? Holy ****, I haven't used anything higher than

            27 x n
            63 100

kind of stuff...(sorry if that looks weird, but you catch my drift).

And my math skills are teh suck. But I wanna get into the air force, dammit!

It's more of an IQ type test than a skills / knowledge test (at least when I took it in 1984). I took it after partying most of the night and still did fine, and I hadn't taken a math course in 6 years by that time. Don't sweat it unless you are really hopeless at arithmetic & language.

Cool. The guide I bought has all kinds of stuff like biochemistry things. physics, and other goodies I haven't seen in a long time.

Jeez, I hope you guys are right. Thanks for the vote of confidence.

I took it last February and got an 98.

There is a lot of early high school math/science/english in there. I forget what specifically.

I think focusing on rest would be one of your best bets.

I took mine in my Junior year of highschool and got a 96. It's one of the reasons I do my work in the air conditioning and not carring around a ruck sack in the heat. I did know a guy who took it and made like a 20 on it. He took it again and made a little lower.
