Consider the Coast Guard. Only chance of combat is with drug runners. The Air Farce is top heavy, officer wise, so there isn't a lot of room for advancement, especially if you don't start as an officer.

There are lots of navy jobs that don't require you being at sea. I'm sure most of the people stationed at Pearl don't go to sea.

Unless you get deployed to the Middle East and find yourself doing Maritime interdiction or guarding the oil platforms....
Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

What the hell is the CG doing the ME? What part of our coast is in the ME?

              *cough**cough*

Here's something from the Army website. I really want to be a clinical psychologist (psychiatrists, different paradigm)

              CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY RESIDENCY PROGRAM (CPRP)

This program offers philosophy and psychology students a year of valuable training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, or Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia. To qualify, you must:

              * Have completed or be in your last year of a Doctor of Philosophy or Doctor of Psychology program in clinical or counseling psychology
              * Be eligible for an appointment as a commissioned Officer in the U.S Army
              * Be younger than 46.5 years of age

Active Duty service obligation is 49 months, including the internship.
While I'm not in an PhD nor MA program of Psychology, I really think that this might be a good thing. Nevermind Army. I'm really preferring AF, but if they say they aren't interested...Army will do it for me, just because of Tripler. 49 months plus internship? I'd do double digits so long as it gets me to where I want to be.

And of all the Armed Forces, if I had it to do over again, I'd go with the Air Force (I was in the Army for 12 years). Just remember this quote from an Airman I knew "I'm not in the military, I'm in the Air Force!".
The problem with the Air Force is the people who join it. I served with all four services throughout my military service and got on well with everyone but the Air Force. There were decent individuals who varied from the norm mind you, but overall I found Air Force personnel self-absorbed, wimpy and poor team players. I had more friends in the Bundeswehr and the British Army than the USAF.

But he touched it too much!

are you sure about that? I thought I remember seeing some young warrant oficers. They may have been LDO's. Which stand for limited duty officers. That's another thing the navy has (not sure if other places have them)

Well, then. You obviously haven't met my charming ass, have you? No matter what culture it is, once I learn the customs, I blend into any situation like a social chamileon.

Meeting with the recruiter later on today....update later on.

Same reason why the CG was active in Vietnam, I suppose. The "Total Force" structure concept.

                              Damn.....shut up!

Well, I had my meeting with the recruiter today. He was totally cool, no pressure at all. Asked me a little bit about myself and lightly described some info about the A.F. and how getting placed in the A.F. is like. He also told me about the options I have as well as future prospects.

He DID ask for my college GPA (which wasn't the greatest) and said that it would be an uphill battle as well as OTS being very competitive as well.

Also, he described the difference between enlisted and officers a bit more (I still don't really get it 100%). He said that with my degree, I'd probably be enlisted at a higher rank but it wouldn't be the same as if I went straight to OTS.

Additionally, he said that I would pick 5 jobs from a list, and I would get one of those 5. Lastly, he said that with my degree I'd probably go into the medical field (which isn't that bad, actually that's really good).

He said that to help me out, I should probably pick up an ASVAB study guide which I just picked up today for review. So, he gave me his card and said to call him if I had any questions.

The whole process was maybe 30 minutes. Very short. Far shorter than I thought it was going to be.
