I don't know why. I've never worked in a union shop and don't consider myself any worse off for that fact. Union shops can have bad relations with their workers just as much as can non-union shops. Likewise with good employee relations.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

even non union workers benefit from having unions.

At least they do in my city.

It drives all the wages up. In order to compete for talented workers, non union places have to provide wages and benefits similar to union ships, or they won't have any good workers to hire.

I have worked in the maintenance union. But in reality most casinos in Las Vegas are non union (Steve Wynn doesn't like union). But their maintenance workers make almost as much as union shops. In some cases more (but without the pension). This would not be the case if unions had never existed.

Though this kind of contradicts my earlier statement.

Because by this logic Walmart should provide similar pay and benefits to unionized cashiers (our grocercy clerks are unionized). And I have heard the pay at walmart isn't real bad. So I don't really expect them to unionize or hire union workers.

Walmart is okay in my book. I only hate them because they censore their music CD's, and don't advertise this fact. but I was happy they let me exchange my CD after I found out it had bleeps on every cuss word.

were they remodelling or something? Most of the wal marts I've been in seemed quite dust free.

perhaps he's talking about the people in them. You get mostly white trash and minorities. At least in my neighborhood. Not that I have anything against minorities.

Another reason I don't like walmart is all the screaming children. And children running down the isles. very annoying.

I wish I could live in a city in which there were no children. Children and babies annoy me.

Walmart is dirty, cramped, and crowded. The employees all seem like they have had the life sucked from them. It's a very depressing place to shop for low-quality products just to save a buck or two. I hate going to Walmart.

Sams Club, oddly enough, is quite different, and I always enjoy shopping there.

Because of the little mess you made with the other hand?

No offense to DD, but I hate Wal-Mart. I flat-out refuse to shop there; I hate the homogenization of America.

The only purchase I have ever made at Wal-Mart was a full-blown five-alarm emergency. Ran out of condoms at an inconvenient hour.

They won't sell any cds that have parental warning labels on them.

And alter the images of CDs when they dont like what they see.

I also refuse to shop at Walmart.

I'm glad my local kwik-e-mart style store has condoms, and at a reasonable price

I hate Wal-Mart as well. For different reasons. If I could find a job that paid as well, I'd take it in a heart beat.
