In addition I bet there are a lot of times where two knives can get drawn and each party just backs away-- heck just one of them backs away-- no wounds at all. In the same situation with guns drawn, someone will usually get shot-- its just so easy.

Again, I'll acknowledge that people can kill each other with a wide range of things . . . all I want the pro-gun folks to aknowledge is that guns make killing so sickeningly easy.

Add in that many murders are NOT planned in any way and in fact the perpetrator is usually genuinely remorseful. So many stupid stupid altercations which might have ended with someone getting pushed down but instead ends with someone dead simply becasue a gun was near at hand

I don't know that gun control could ever work in the US and am saddened to see a culture that values them so very much
It's certainly easier to avoid someone with a knife (compared to a gun) if that's your intent from the beginning and they haven't yet closed the range. Once they have it becomes difficult to back away without leaving yourself wide open to attack. The most likely result in a knife fight is that both participants end up wounded. Once the combatants are within range of one another it's hard to miss, and it is very difficult to disable someone quickly enough with a knife that you don't suffer retribution. Most gunfights end with at least one of the participants unscathed. Even police officers who are trained in combat shooting and practice regularly miss about 80% of the time in gunfights.

Of course both situations are fairly rare in comparison to assaults / murders where one party is armed and ready for combat and the other isn't. More common still are situations where one person pulls a gun and the other runs for their life and no shots are fired. People in the U.S. don't tend to do a lot of knife brandishing, as it's a really good way to get shot to death. Knives are typically exposed only when the parties are in close proximity and they are often used as surprise weapons.

Any views I may express here are personal and certainly do not in any way reflect the views of my employer. Tis the rising of the moon..

I don't own a gun. Never really saw the need.

But I do reserve the right to own one, and IF I own one, I acknowledge that it won't do me much good if I can't get to it.

It is a freedom I find important, even if I do not actively participate by owning one of the things.

Unfortunately, one of the side effects of freedom is the freedom to behave badly WITH it, and sometimes, with fatal consequences.

That does not, however, mean that the freedom is a bad thing....it means that two gentlemen weren't terribly bright.

So why don´t you keep the right to own guns,
but make it illegal to carry guns outside of your house or shooting ranges,
unless they´re kept in a locked case (for example to transport them from your house to a shooting range )
and charge those who don´t abide to this law with hefty fines or even a couple of day in prison?

Well yes of course. I don't believe that anyone ever bothered to compute statistics for the two seperately.

Noticed CNN reporting another court worker/deputy was shot and killed in Tennessee.

Not even their courts are safe.
