btw, I used ritalin in the past

was put on it arround first grade (I was also kicked out of first grade)

I got off it in 6th or 8th, because I wanted to (I had wanted to for a long time, my mom finally allowed me to)

        I don't like taking pills..

Well, a short description/intended use would be nice. As in, i have no idea what ritalin is.

if you self-medicate with alcohol then vote with it..

there were years where I took nothing (I didn't start drinking caffeine till I was in college, and alcohol until gradschool) so I don't think that I self-medicate with any drug

and my family would never have been abile to afford it. We had no health insurance, and I never went to the doctor as a kid. But I was never hyper.

I just couldn't focus too much on school work as a kid. But I think maybe because I was in the average classes. A strange thing happened in jr. high. I took a test, and then they put me in the advanced classes, then I started getting good grades. But I did seem more able to focus. Especially in high school (when I got out of a bad family and a bad jr. high school environment).

but most of that was just competition with my older brother. I wanted to be just like him. I still do in a way. pathetic. I should be my own person. Whatever that is.

If you've had ritalin, caffeine would pale a bit in comparison

I've had a stint with prozac in recent history though.

                  from http://www.zoot2.com/justthefacts/drugs/ritalin.asp

                  Ritalin®

                  Q: What is Ritalin®?

A: Ritalin® is the name that a medication called methylphenidate is sold under.

Q: What is Ritalin® used for?

A: Doctors use Ritalin® to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Ritalin® seems to help an ADHD–affected person pay attention to tasks and reduce impulsive and hyperactive behaviour. It has become a popular way to control difficult behaviours in children, especially at school.

Q: What is the problem with Ritalin®?

A: Like a lot of legal drugs, the problem comes when people abuse it by taking more than the doctor prescribed in order to get “high.” When abused, it stimulates the mind and body in much the same way as amphetamines and cocaine.

I am sure there are better sites

I thought ritalin had the opposite effect on children than adults. What's up with that?

I beleive it is an opposite effect on people with ADHD then people without it

honestly I think it is ****ed up that it is prescribed so much

and it makes lots of people think that it isnt' that bad, when really it is similiar to cocaine

personally, while I can beleive that it should be prescribed in a few cases, I Think it should be prescribed in a lot less
