I don't think you need to see tanks roll through your capital more than once to get the idea ...

And you were a soviet, not a czech, if I read you right. Soviets weren't about to run over their own loyal citizens

Yes, but what about their unloyal citizens? they didn't run them over, either. Hell, they didn't run them over in a situation where I am sure any other army would've - a coup.

        And yor sources? www.techno.cz ...
What's the fuzz? A few thousand ravers attended an illegal(!) festival that was set up basically on a random spot where the organizers felt it was good - the authorities gave them three days to dance and then urged to leave the area - which they refused. A first attempt to dissolve the illegal festival failed because of bad organization and because participants threw objects on the police. Next time, riot police goes in. In the past years, there were also police actions but only this time there was an escalation.
I've once seen Slovakian riot police in live action and I swear I almost pissed in my pants even though they didn't act on me but on Slovakian hooligans, so I sure have pitty for those who were there, but it was known to happen.

Wait - didn't the Czech republic break apart from Slovakia? How do slovakian riot police have anything to do with this

I'm pretty sure Czech riot policemen are only marginally nicer than Slovakian ones.

for your information, news about this was in here as well and sure as hell the source for them wasn't techno.cz. Do you see the tank in there? Check out the facts and try to make it fit your story and you will be more talented than Houdini.

                  Wernuzema: the source isn't techno.cz, it's: http://visions.cz/media_activism_the...tival_czechtek

The article has been updated BTW, it now claims someone has died because of the police actions.

And even though it's probably not an unbiased source, it states that there was a contract with the land owner. That would only be logical since international festivals of this size, that have been existing for years, are *very* rarely illegal - simply because organisers know they cannot hide such events of such size from the police. (illegal parties are most of the time very small)

PS: fixed the link in my previous post.

I've been watching the videos http://g4.freetekno.cz/ and what strikes me is that the police just surrounds the area and doesn't bother to shut down the music. This while it's very easy to shut down a party and make everyone leave: just silence the music.

OK, I can't find the tank. I'm sure it's there, so I want to see it - it's late and I'm lazy.

                              1. I read Czech media sources writing in German calling the festival "illegal". I suppose that just having a contract with a land owner doesn't per se make such a festival legal without special permit. I'm sure the organizers had that contract-paper, showed it to the crowd and cheered "look, everything is legal, now we can do everything we want."... Just think about the noise, the waste, the dogs... The police action was justified with damages done to the property of neighbours and breaking the nocturnal silence without special permit. Such a loud, huge and days-long festival is a severe problem for a small community.
                              2. The fotos of the police action are actually not bad at all. I couldn't make out police beating up people lying defenselessly on the ground or just standing around - as seen in Genoa or lately in Turkey. On the first of the two videos, there's only one scene with a real outbreak of violence and that is a young punk jumping legs ahead into the police front - the police responded cautiously. On the opposite, both on fotos and on the video you can see ravers talk to the police or stand by peacefully. You'll nowhere find policemen hunting people.
                              3. The visions.cz link doesn't work. One of my sources says that the death of one man was not related to the police action at all. The man was run over by a truck on his way from the festival on Sunday, 5AM, some 12 hours after the incident...
                              4.
Check out the facts and try to make it fit your story and you will be more talented than Houdini.
Funny, I feel the very same vice versa. I think you fell for a campaign by those ravers who obviously didn't enjoy that part interrupting their peace... As I've said in my previous post, the festival was already going for 2 days and a prior attempt to dissolve the festival did not work. Now compare that to the original outrage about riot police running over after 20 minutes.
