Maine is a pretty staunchly liberal state, yet they've opposed legislation like this twice already. Instead of blaming this on the evil Christians, you might want to re-examine the tactics of those pushing for the extension of rights to homosexuals and correct whatever seems to be putting off the common man...

Why can't you just accept that many homosexuals are against gay marriage as well? I am gay AND against gay marriage, which is a stupid thing that turns the real marriage into a meaningless contract
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

I have a concern that that is the case as well

which was why I was against gay marriage for a time

but I think that there should be a societal sanctioned support for gay couples

and if people want to call it marriage, I am fine with it

Then you're just being incredibly short-sighted and incredibly selfish. You don't care about any gay friends of yours who would like to get married with someone?

Try thinking about others, instead of only yourself for a change.

It is definitely true that many people who argue for gay marriage, do seem to see marriage as a meaningless contract, and one that, possibly, anything can enter into (as seen in some other threads on this site). This thinking concerns me.

Where am I arguing whether or not he's gay? He said he is gay, and I'm taking his word on that.

                Reread my post.

Marrriage only has as much meaning as the contracting parties put into it.

Maine isn't immune to the backwards logic that is seemingly prevalent across the country.

As much as the so called "moral elite" would like it to be, gays are not responsible for moral decay in America (though they make an easy scapegoat).

A healthy dose of introspection is what American needs (straight, gay or otherwise), not more finger pointing, fear mongering and bigotry.

Other people from Maine eh? Cool.

                          I disagree

polygamy, and other such things should not be allowed

same as ones that include children or the retarded

also, nonhumans shouldn't be allowed (unless they are sentient and at the same level as us)

Everyone should have an equal right to get divorced. That way there will be plenty of work for divorce lawyers and our economy will survive.

I have a father and a mother. That's what people call a married couple. Period.

If gay couples want to have a contract recognized by the state, that's ok to me, but don't ask the society to adapt to your lefty-chic requests. I love my cat but I'm not asking to marry him.
