Any views I may express here are personal and certainly do not in any way reflect the views of my employer. Tis the rising of the moon..

I don't think I have, I completley accept crticism against the UK when it is on the basis of something we are doing or have done in the recent past. Or if the criticism is about our society when the people doing the criticism can do so form a position of being able to explain why their society is better.
I am probably annoyed about the bus loads of extemists in my country saying that it is awful and decadent and how we deserve wahts comming to us yet know full well thay would be locked up for saying so in their countries of origin.
Non of this rant means i don't think the people responsible for the shambles that resulted in the Brazillians death should not be held to account.
How many countries in the world can say that theyhold a proper enquiry, which is certainly been done here at the moment.Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

I'm glad my rather non subtle dig at the french has been taken in the manner intended.
Being british wouldn't be the same withouth the French
We started the cultural dominaton of english when your little corsican maestro was sent to the south atlanticSpace is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

If it wasn't for the US, the only hints of English-speaking culture we foreigners would get are Shakespeare, Edgar Poe, the Beatles and Harry Potter. And nobody but scholars would read the books in English anyway"I have been reading up on the universe and have come to the conclusion that the universe is a good thing." -- Dissident

believe what you like Spiffor but French is certainly dead in the water and has been declining since Trafalgar
The only serious competitor English has had since Boney surrendered is German.Any views I may express here are personal and certainly do not in any way reflect the views of my employer. Tis the rising of the moon..

There is no doubt North America has propelled English forward since WWII to its current global dominance
But the British empire, when one third of the world was British, Britain controlled global trade and the sea lanes, and London was the financial capital of the world, was when English was established as the first truly globally dominant language - it was the language of exchange.Last edited by Alexander's Horse; August 18, 2005, 08:55.Any views I may express here are personal and certainly do not in any way reflect the views of my employer.
