  • Get widgets on your PC for free

Yahoo bought Konfabulator and now its free. What the hell is that, you ask me?

Konfabulator is an (...) engine for Windows and Mac OS X that lets you run little files called Widgets that can do pretty much whatever you want them to. Widgets can be alarm clocks, calculators, can tell you your WiFi signal strength, will fetch the latest stock quotes for your preferred symbols, and even give your current local weather.

So there is no such thing as freeware? But I think I know what you mean: it takes some time to download and time is money so...

I think Stardock has a similar feature in some software it produces.

No, what I meant is why would anyone give away widgets for free. There's either some advertising bundled with it, or spyware.

Wont having those stuff running in the background slow down the computer?

Not much, actually. Konfabulator is fairly efficient.

Most of the widgets I've seen are only marginally useful, but it's easy to make your own.

                      what about memory use?
I hear its a real memory hog.

I posted this for the unfortunate polytubbies who suffer from Apple envy. Konfabulator is almost exactly like what you find on Tiger. The widgets even look similar.

I use this at work, I like it and do not notice if it is a resource hog. I like the stock ticket and news feeds. Plus the orange round clock looks real wicked superimposed on the eye of the pic of my dog.
We're sorry, the voices in my head are not available at this time. Please try back again soon.
