The US is going to try and solve all their energy problems by futzing with the clocks. Sure glad we don't change time here.

Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will, as it did Obi Wan's apprentice.

The stupidest part of Saskatchewan, aside from the pathetic economy, is the fact that they don't know enough to use DST when everyone around them does.

          Wikipedia:

DST is a long-standing controversy in Indiana, not only as an agricultural state, but also because the border separating the eastern and central time zones divides the state. In the past, neighboring communities sometimes ended up one or even two hours apart. Being out-of-sync with neighboring states and the national changing of clocks, it is argued, has a negative economic impact on the state. It has been demonstrated that some businesses have located outside of the state once the confusion related to not changing clocks is discovered. In the current compromise, the state has three kinds of time zones:

          77 counties, most of the state, are on Eastern Standard Time but do not use DST;

5 counties near Chicago, Illinois and 5 counties in the southwestern corner of the state are on Central Standard Time and do use DST; and

2 counties near Cincinnati, Ohio and 3 counties near Louisville, Kentucky are on Eastern Standard time but do observe DST. Their observance of DST is unofficial in this case, as a strict reading of the Uniform Time Act would not allow for this situation, but by observing DST, they remain synchronized with the greater Louisville and Cincinnati metropolitan areas.

On April 29, 2005, the Indiana legislature voted to end their holdout and begin observing Daylight Saving Time in 2006, however what time zone the state will be placed in is unknown pending federal hearings.

Actually we are on DST all year round, it's just that the border for central and mountain goes right through the middle of the province, so if we pick one zone half the province will be really off.

As for the economy, I think it was you that posted a chart that showed we were 3rd in provinces in terms of equalization behine Alberta and Ontario, so we can't be all bad.

Indiana doesn't but a law just passed and we will be. There was supposed to be a hearing on which time zone since we border 4 states and half are EST and the other CST. However some of the jerks in our state legislature decided not to have the debate. So the assumption is that we're going to go EST. If I have to live with DST, I would much rather be in the central time zone with Chicago than eastern because of Michigan and Ohio.

But the Navajo (and Hopi) indian reservations (most of which is located in Arizona- and it's freakin' huge) does use daylight savings time.

If it passes, DST will now be around during most of the year...

Wouldn't that kinda make it, I dunno, Standard Time then?

Yup. Mitch Daniels has royally screwed us. I saw a poll on the news where 57% wanted central, some 3x% wanted eastern and the rest were undecided. But apparently businesses wants eastern

What makes more sense, being tied timewise to chicago or NYC?

Can't wait til next summer when its daylight at 10:00pm. And the stores still close at 9 during the week. ****ing fantastic

btw, where are you in Indiana mactbone? I'm in Indy these days.

Does it have to be only one time zone?

Indiana really needs to be split down the middle to line it up with neighboring states... at the very least Lake and the other far NW counties should be Central (Chicago), and the SE counties (Clark, Floyd, Dearborn, etc.) should be Eastern (lined up with L'Ville & Cincy).

                        And to extending DST nationwide.

Well, even in San Francisco those working in the financial sector follow Eastern Standard Time hours, and let me tell you it is a great thing as it effectively adds 50% to the capacity of the Bay Bridge.

Well, I guess the Gary area will stay with Chicago as will that SW tip of Indiana.

                            I'm in the Fishers/Geist area but I'm from Elkhart/Goshen.

Daylight savings time is such a waste. If you want your business to be open at the same time NYC businesses are then have your employees come in 1 hour earlier. I know guys at factories who go in at 5:30am. 8/9-5 is not a mandate anymore. Keep your own time.

I'd agree with you. Perhaps Indiana doesn't want to see itself as one giant suburb (or a couple of giant suburbs), though?
