Its not worth the wait. Drink now to numb the pain of being a criminal.

As for it preventing college kids from drinking, no law entirely prevents anyone from breaking them. I do believe that some kids will wait because of the law, and that lowering the law will put more pressure on these kids to drink.

I for one, found it very convenient that in my freshman year, I could argue against the folks who wanted me to have a drink, that why now? Why not wait a year and then drink?
In the United States at least the average age of one's first drink is 13.

The drinking age doesn't work. Clearly.

Yes. It is easier to deny alcohol all the time than it is to deny a car some of the time.

I have no problem with a lower age limit, as long as there was zero allowed while driving and it would lead to an automatic suspension till age 21.

              Seems fair to me.

If you have a military ID you should be able to drink at any age. Otherwise set it at 40 years old.

That ought to get recruitment up.

That's because you have all those Catholics lowering the average.

Similar zero tolerance penalties for adult drunk drivers too?

That does not necessarily follow. The average age could become 6 without the limit driving it up.

Call me crazy, but I really can't picture a bunch of drunk 6 year olds staggering from house party to house party if the drinking age dropped a few years.

The age at 21 seems to lead mostly to disrespect for the law generally. Drinking is one thing, but people having fake IDs is more worrisome to me.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

No, most adults are more mature about their choices and have a higher tolerance that two beers isn't going to impare them. The legal limit is already pretty low. I don't think it needs to be lowered. Granted that doesn't solve everything, but I don't think anything will.

21 is too late IMO....here we are already breaking the drink laws by 18, at least 16 for most I would say, and earlier for the cool kids.

I dont understand how American law expects kids to hold out for so long on something that is seen as fun and mature

Drop it to 18. Let the babies have their bottles.
