  • Ted Heath Dies

    Thatcher undoubtedly very pleased.

BBC obit on losing leadship to the old girl

A junior colleague named Margaret Thatcher surprised everyone by trouncing Heath in the first round of the ensuing leadership contest. What followed was called the longest sulk in modern politics.

Over the years, he attacked almost all her policies and when she, too, was eventually deposed, his satisfaction was evident.

Sorry to hear that, but at least he made it into a Beatle's song.

I was more of a Wilson man at the time...

Sorry to hear this, he was Prime Minister back when I first began taking notice of what was going on. Though I admittedly don't know much of his politics, I always had the impression he was a very committed and decent politician - and he headed Britain through some tough times, not least the exercise of bringing it into the EEC, which I think was quite an achievement.

But he must have been close to 90, so I guess it was his time to go now...

Yeah, he used to be the MP just up the road a bit from here...

Rumoured but never publically admitted. A gay colleague thought he was gay.
