Well, Ozzy, it's not what I said. I think France would become borderline fascist if such a thing happened, and would obsess about terrorism for a jolly long time. The fabric of society would be completely transformed. There would probably be some foreign ventures, but I don't think we'd nuke whole countries. I don't think the survivng French would want that too.

It's my understanding that terrorism is preached in the churches and respected in the media. It pervades society as the way to make it to heaven and get some ass while there. Terrorism is part of the culture in the mideast.

How long we can keep the nukes out is the question. Our borders are fairly open, our ports wide open. I think they could ship one here in a container marked 'illegal nuclear weapons' and it would be delivered. The only hope is intelegence, knowing it's being shipped and meeting the ship at sea. Then again, we didn't know about 9/11, sooo...

If we nuke the middle east in response, we *WANT* to commit genocide. It is such an unimaginably awful thing to do, but likley a neccesary one. I am Jewish and most of my familly died on Aschwitz and Dachow but this is different. If 20 american cities are nuked, it becomes a matter of survival-the only way to protect ourselves is quite literally genocide, the entire populations of countries which preach wahabism(summary: kill the infidels) need to be wiped out because those we leave alive will DEFINATLEY come for us.

The only problem in doing that is managing to kill them all, without producing so much radiation that it spreads with the wind killing millions in asia.

If a foreign device is detonated in the united states and muslim terrorists are found to be responsible, the arab world has 24 hours to give us a good reason to not nuke mecca and medina, at which point, we nuke both those cities. Have the Israeli's level the temple mount as well(a bunch of important sites there including the dome of the rock).

Imagine a strong statesman(so not bush... say clinton, maybe regan) coming on for the state of the union, he steps up to the podium, the seal of the presidency behind him....:

"My fellow Americans, we live in a dangerous time and our best efforts can not protect us entirley from the cowardly acts of religious fanatics. I say this now with the deepest regret and sorrow but it is the responsibility of this goverment to protect the people of the united states.

Growing intelligence has shown that terrorists have increased their efforts for plans to detonate nuclear devices in the United States of America.

It is now the American policy that if a nuclear device is detonated in America and muslim fanatics are found to be responsible, we will give the nations of the middle east 48 hours to appease us. After that time, Mecca and Medina will be reduced to nuclear rubble.

We say this with heavy hearts and the deepest regrets but the American people will not let our lives be ruled by terror.

That might actually work as to a degree as a deterent. How do you think SAUDI ARABIA will respond to that message? How do you think PAKISTAN will respond to that message? How do you think IRAN will respond to that message?

*OVERNIGHT* those goverments will kick it into overdrive to rid themselves of threats to the U.S.
