  • To summarize, Plame points out that her husband is qualified for the job.

Indeed. Which doesn't really jive with...

"Valerie had nothing to do with the matter," Wilson wrote in a memoir published this year. "She definitely had not proposed that I make the trip."

Really doesn't reflect well on Wilson...

    Neither does this.

The report also said Wilson provided misleading information to The Washington Post last June. He said then that he concluded the Niger intelligence was based on documents that had clearly been forged because "the dates were wrong and the names were wrong."

"Committee staff asked how the former ambassador could have come to the conclusion that the 'dates were wrong and the names were wrong' when he had never seen the CIA reports and had no knowledge of what names and dates were in the reports," the Senate panel said. Wilson told the panel he may have been confused and may have "misspoken" to reporters. The documents -- purported sales agreements between Niger and Iraq -- were not in U.S. hands until eight months after Wilson made his trip to Niger.

    • No, the statements are perfectly compatible. You can suggest that a person is a qualified candidate for a job, without suggesting that they should do the job. Plame wasn't part of the meeting where the decision was made.

      Again:
In fact, on July 13 of this year, David Ensor, the CNN correspondent, did call the CIA for a statement of its position and reported that a senior CIA official confirmed my account that Valerie did not propose me for the trip:

"'She did not propose me', he [Wilson] said--others at the CIA did so. A senior CIA official said that is his understanding too.'"

        Theoretically. It's not likely, though.

        • According the guys Newsday and CNN called in the CIA, that's exactly what happened. Again, Plame recused herself from decision making due to conflict of interest.

I don't care to argue the point (though it wouldn't suprise me if Schmidt's misleading on this issue as well), since it's irrelevent to the matter at hand (whether the leak was defensible).

            • Now Wilson is saying this...

WILSON: My wife was not a clandestine officer the day that Bob Novak blew her identity.

WTF is even going on in this case? Now we're probably going to have people arguing ad nauseum about what Wilson meant by "clandestine officer".

I think I'm going to go back to not caring about this cluster****.

Unless she misquoted the Senate report, it's hard to see how she would be misleading anyone.

I agree though, let's stop talking about it.
