    It's no different than if you leave your keys in the car with the window down, and it gets stolen, or if you leave a laptop in the middle of a park.

      Well, yes. I still have a hard time imagining this as a felony, however. Aren't there differing degrees of theft matched with the severity/value taken?

        conversion is generally the misdemeanor version, and probably how this should be considered.
