          IIRC in Judges there is a passage about a traveler who stays the night at an inn. The host threatens to take liberties with the man, but instead takes a female servant (or was it a daughter) instead. The girl dies the next day. The man gathers his kin and they punish (eradicate) the perpetrator and his tribe. I'm not sure what name the Jews give to the book of Judges , nor whether the events took place before of after the Babylonian exile, but this passage would indicate that the Jews of the time did consider killing a female of low status to be a capital crime.
