There are celebrations all over the world. Usually low key ones by Americans living overseas where the locals join in as an excuse to party. Not much different than here really where the holiday is more known as July 4th rather than Independence Day. I don't see how it would be weird for others to join in on the fun.

Yes.
As I've repeatedly posted here, Denmark is home to the largest Independence Day celebration outside the United States. Every year, tens of thousands of people gather at Rebild in Northern Jutland for a huge open air celebration, with music, dancing, entertainment and speeches by prominent Danes and Americans.
The ones who attend are predominantly emigrants living in the States, their descendants and others with a strong connection to the U.S. But a lot of "ordinary" Danes, as well as Americans who happen to be in the area parttake also. I've never been, since it's a bit out of the way for me, but I'd certainly like to.

I find it weird and slightly disturbing that you're celebrating our day of independence. It's like if we celebrated the October Revolution...A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

Before you celebrate (and you should celebrate) remember the slaves, natives and all other minority groups that have been displaced, oppressed and assimiliated over the years.
Just so I don't seem like a hypocrite
And then celebrate all the good things
You're preaching the choir -- many of us here fully acknowledge the bad with the good.
But celebration of Independence Day is meant to be uplifting -- hence the word, "celebration."
And let's not forget Union Day of July 3.A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

Red Arrows flew a circuit over London streaming out red, white and blue smoke.
It was supposed to represent the US, but looked more like the French flag. Those stars are damned hard to get right, even for avionic and aerobatic experts! One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

Our revolution did away with the idea of "divine right of monarchs"
No it didn't. Read your history.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35 (NRSV)

Thanks, Winston.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
