  • G8 summit

The world's most powerful leaders are meeting in Scotland, at the Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire.

Top of the agenda is Africa and climate change, although there's virtually no prospect of a serious agreement on the latter. Bush and his ilk will never budge on it, since they're quite convinced 'it will wreck our economy'. The only question is whether the remaining leaders will simply come their own agreement, leaving Bush isolated.

Africa might fare better. Hopefully, the continent will get a helping hand, in particular, an end to the dumping of subsidised agricultural products. It's a personal mission of Blair (and Brown), and it's also becoming very popular, at least if the various demonstrations and concerts are anything to go by.

There hasn't been any trouble yet, although the anarchists are planning a 'carnival of full enjoyment' today. Might be media hype, though.

Speaking of the media, the British media is giving the summit and related events masses of coverage. What's the coverage like in the rest of the world?

Canada: Haven't heard anything about it other than Live8. But I haven't seen as much news as i like to this past week.

But we did have all day coverage of Live8 on a big network.
