  • Computer question: USB

How do you tell which version of USB you have installed on your computer?

I've looked for it high and low in Settings->Control panel, done a search for "usb" on the C:\ drive and looked into some inf.-files, but I can't find anything on whether it's version 1.1 or 2.0.

I'm happy enough with the speed of my USB-connection, it just irritates me not being able to figure out which version I have.

And also, I bought a new USB 2.0 card with my new scanner, just to be sure that it'd work properly, but if I could somehow determine that I have 2.0 already, I could return the card and get my money back.

Scan a picture with both USB connections and time it D/Ling?

      Control Panel -> System
On the Hardware Tab, click the Device Manager button

There should be an entry for Universal Serial Bus, and it should say. For example:
      Attached Files
"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."
Ben Kenobi: "That means I'm doing something right. "

Start -> Accessories -> System tools -> System information -> Software environment -> System drivers

Here's what the device manager tells me about the USB controllers. But there's no mention of "2.0" like in Asher's screenshot.

Do ask if you need some of the Danish words translated.

            Looks like 1.0/1.1

I just googled for SiS 7001.
"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."
Ben Kenobi: "That means I'm doing something right. "

In the info that Combat Ingrid directed me to there is mention of 2.0!

Maybe this means I have it?

Screenshot below of part of the [Start -> Accessories -> System tools -> System information -> Software environment -> System drivers] - information. Again, please ask for translation if needed.

In the properties for my usbhub.sys file (located in C:\windows\system32\drivers\), it says the file version is

                "5.1.2600.1243(xpsp2.030702-2125)"

Doesn't it seem like it's 2.0 from that information?

And in the properties for my usbport.sys file, located in the same folder, the description is

                  "USB 1.1 & 2.0 Port Driver"

Looks that way to me too. But I don't know anything, so it's nice if you got the same impression.

BTW, I can't compare scanning times like you suggested, as I haven't installed the 2.0 USB card yet. Don't even want to open the packaging if it turns out I have it already.

                          Great!

And thanks for pointing it out to me where I'd find them.

I imagine lots of people are unsure of this, it seems a mystery why the information isn't easier to find.

Unlike what Asher's pic showed, my device manager refused to give up any information on the USB version
