    Battery is a harmful or offensive touching. I agree this was not a harmful touching, but I think squirting someone in the face with water, especially when they are going into an event, is offensive.

    Candid camera put people into unusual situations and filmed their reactions. This show made physical contact with their "victim," which takes matter to a whole new level.

        ZKrib is right. This is a clear cut case of battery. It was offensive contact to the plaintiff's person (which was not an ordinary contact of everyday life). Though there wasn't any lasting harm, so Cruise wouldn't get much money (nominal damages, ie, $1). But he would win. No doubt.
