I hear you. DT has quite a record exploiting monopolies.

Of course you know I was joking with the fascist bit. I remember you once were quite upset about them.

I heard they're lowering prices in Germany - 15 Euro / month for flat rate 1024/512

Here I pay 15 Euro /month for 384/64 with just 2 GB download included, over that I pay 4 Euro for every additional GB
Believe it or not, but I don't even know what I pay at the moment. I signed a contract back in 2001, where I would pay for 768/128 without traffic limitation ~20 Euro (IIRC 19,95 or so). Since then, the contract has been changed multiple times, both in price and in speed. I believe I have 1024/256 or even 1024/512 now (not sure about the upload speed, it doesnt matter for downloading porn ) and the price is also another. Don't know, honest. I spend a whole 5 seconds with this rubric on my monthly bill and so far it hasn't rung the "too costly" bell. If it ever will, I can find a cheaper provider with ease.

800KB down, 100KB up. Sonera cable, dunno what the technical term would be... Sufficient.

Actually mine is 1.1Mbps but I couldn't be pendantic about it. That was then though, but since you've posted, I will be

Yeah, I was. Called them names, etc. Over the years internet pages were getting larger and surfing with modem more painful. I was on the edge of staging a revolution, and trust me food and water shortages wouldn't motivate me so much as that

Flat-rate (=no traffic limiration) is king. Soon I'll have that too.

This is because electricity lines exist in more places on this planet than anywhere else. That means no new infrastructure to build.

There are even companies like Sony, that are joining forces to create a PowerLine Appliance. The goal of this is that, gone would be the days of having to buy a modem, or connect your electronic machine into the phone, or the cable line, etc.

Basically, the goal would be to embed the broadband device, which exists in the power plug of the game console, tv, computer, and virtually any other electronic device. All you would need to do is plug the electical plug into the wall and you're good to go.

The benefit for power companies is that they can monitor the service of their electrical networks. Currently they cannot monitor remote devices, only major installations. So if a street has a group of these PowerLine devices go down, the electric company will see that and be able to respond. Instead of waiting for someone to call them up and tell them about the problem.

BPL still has speed issues, as the other technologies are more mature, but I'm sure these can be circumvented as the technology is more widley adopted.
Not only speed issueas but also alot of interference problems.

                    Down: 10 Mb/s
                    Up : 512 Kb/s
                    Limit: 30G (4.5G up included)
                    Price: expensive

This space is empty... or is it?

Monthly DL/UL limitations are an abomination. I'd rather take a 256 kbps line without any limitations over a 10 Mbps line with any kind of limitations (save for limits that are absurdly high).

Yeah, I know, however most ISP's here have some kind of cap, the ones that don't, usually skimp on other thing such as reliability.

Seeing as I play online too from time, I need some speed too.
