  • Freedom FROM religion.

I hold the belief that freedom FROM religion is just as important as the other side of the coin -- freeom OF religion. This is the latest news update about the Air Force Academy and the aggressiveness of some of the religious fundies within this institution.

What a lame joke -- and this is coming from ME, for christ's sake.

How can anyone want freedom from God, you monster!

I wonder what has attracted so many evangelicals to the air force? Maybe the Army is too gritty and the Navy too gay?

What else can you say though? You can argue with the biblebashers until you are blue in the face - they are brainwashed and that is the end of it. They are adamant they are correct despite evidence to the contrary. And their righteousness...that is another subject altogether.

We know where reason gets with them...nowhere...

Well, I hope that the publicity of this issue compels the higher-ups to take serious corrective action.

              Why?

Liberals could not really care enough about people in the Military to mount much of a campaign. Religious conservatives will applaud this, and the general public won't care.

And you think the general public would be indifferent with such a fundamental issue as freedom of religion, because . . . . . .?

For the record, I'm a liberal and I care about issues concerning freedom of religion and freedom from religion.

Yes, I think the general public will be indifferent because memmebsr are not forced to be evangelicals, just strongly pressured. People can then assume they can always say no, and no harm will come.

If actual proof, as oposed to allegations, of people being denied promotions or such for thier non-evangelical beliefs came out, then maybe, just maybe, but barely.

I don't care if someone has religious beliefs and are part of the deffence unless if they have some kind descision right or control of wmd's. If they have that , then they should be treated at the same level as potential supporters of communism or "extreme right wing".

Just as religion doesn't have any place in public schools, it doesn't have any place in the army/navy/airforce.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

                      Steven Weinberg
