  • Today was the day of both my greatest victory so far and my most galling defeat so far in this war.

We continued searching ceaselessly for the STC only to find a consolation prize well worth the trouble. Relics of the Chaos God Khorne rumoured to be vessels of previously unknown reserves of power. But I'm getting ahead of myself...

We had set up camp here after letting the foolish Roboute's Rangers engage the Necron encampment earlier and I had set out with a squad of Chaos Space Marines to reconnoiter the area. As we were exploring the area, we had run into a strangely colored Necron Lord and quickly "deactivated" it. I then made what I would learn later to be a costly mistake and waited to consolidate my position with more troops before engaing the camp (I would discover that at the time I first dealt with the Necron Lord, it's base defenses were paper thin and ripe for destruction).

The sorcerors were busy making the proper sacrifices to allow me to access the power held within the Khornate artifacts allowing me to ascend to a higher being. They completed the ritual just as the full weight of the swarm I had foolishly allowed continued existance came down hard on the base camp.

I lead a contingent of warriors onto the field of battle confident that I could no longer truely die now and fought a great battle to cover our escape.

The gambit was sucessful and we are at a new site continuing the search and by all that is unholy I will claim my vengeance on the slaves of the False Emperor and the silent dead along with the Star Gods they serve.

    • This all seems pretty cool.

Do you guys play it out for long, or do you simply rush?

I loved SP in this game, but my friends used to rush me all the time (what can I say, I'm a builder?)

      • Depends on the ebb and flow of the game. Some game shave lasted close to an hour others have been over much quicker. That game I should have rushed because as you saw the Necrons are neigh unstopable if you let them go without any form of early harrassment. We nearly always reach the end game units if that's what your asking.

        Do you have Dark Crusade?

                • "By now Roboute's Rangers had instructed several IG regiments to joining in the purgation of Pekka. For several years, the Lost and the Damned had used the Tassadar Islands in the South Sea as a staging point to launch raids into the subsector. Even worse, a renegade band of Space Wolves had taken up residence, following the Daemon Pince Dino'Doc on his mad quest.

But, with Dino'Doc battling the unrelneting Xenos known as the Necrontyr in the Far North, the chain of command had broken down on Tassadar Island, with the Traitor Guard and Renegade Astartes going at each other's throats. The 51st Apolyton and the Ranger Strike Force landed at the northern end of the Island, and allowed the minions of chaos to battle it out.

This was Colonel Kuciwalker's first command, and he served commendably. The Bulk of the 51st held the line while Brother-Captain Lonestar led an armoured column through the rear of the last standing traitor base. Soon, the begining of the end of Pekka being used as a Traitor Stronghold had started.

Roboute's Rangers and the 51st charge the Traitor lines.

                      • ---Transcript of the conversation that took place onboard the Rangers Battlebarge Thunderchild----

Brother-Captain Lonestar: What do you mean "If the warpstorm lets up? Navigator Patroklos, the storm is driving the situation on Pekka is degenerating rapidly. The IG Taskforce oh-so-gracefully informed us that they had no intention of following our recommendations, and will purge the Planet as they see fit. There was a shooting incident--

                        Patroklos: I know Captain.

Lonestar: --Between ourselves and the 51st Apolyton in the CivnationHills. At the moment it's patched up, but it could explode again at any mo-

Patroklos: "Patched up?" That must be the famous Astartes ability of understatement. You patched it up by wiping out a company of IG, Captain.

Lonestar: Tread carefully, Navigator. Despite yout position you are not indispensible. You're dissmissed.

                        ***shuffling sound, door slams**

Lonestar: By Guilliman, if that insufferably spook...ah, my apologies Codicer, Justicar.

Librarian Dans: You don't have to apologize to me, Captain.

Justicar Theben,Grey Knights: Nor I, we are long used ot suce treatment.

Lonestar: What is the desposition of the Word Bearers force on Pekka? Correct me if I am wrong, but normally when a Daemon is banished it takes years, not days or even hours for his form to be re-incrporated, doesn't it?

Theben: In normal situations, yes. I have consulted extensively with my brothers and have come to an consensus that the warpstorm is affecting the barrier between here and the Immaterium. For all intents and purposes, the planet Pekka is acting as if it were located within The Eye or the Maelstrom.

Lonestar: Damnation. Do we know, specifically why he is here?

Theben: We believe that Dino'Doc thinks there is a functional STC on the the surface.

Lonestar: What? Why would you think that?

Theben: The abandoned fortress-Monestary he raided on Apolyton had arcane cogitator artefacts, the marine chapter that once resided there was notorious for acquiring large amounts of rare technology, for all the good it did them.

Lonestar: Well, if so we must stop him. We cannot let the Adeptus Mechanicus find out about this STC, it will no doubt be corrupt by now. Agreed?

                        Theben: Agreed

                        Dans: What of Colonel Kuciwalker?

Lonestar: I will not push the issue, but if he does not follow my recommendations, and decides to pursue DinoDoc on his own, then he is no longer part of the solution and thus part of the problem.

                        • Aboard the Imperial Guard cruiser Spite

Colonel Kuciwalker: What's the status on that Warp Storm blocking off the system, Ned?

Navigator Ned: Sir, it's still going strong and I can't see the Astronomican anymore. Brother-Captain Lonestar recommends -

Kuciwalker: - I don't care what he recommends, to hell with him.

Ned: Regardless, ever since the incident on CivnationHill -

Kuciwalker: Incident? That's what you call a squad of Terminators wiping out an entire company? They think they can just walk over anything they please just because they call themselves the Sons of the Emperor, but they won't get far without fire support from the Guard. And no, Ned, praying to the Emperor isn't going to do anything to dispell the storm if the Ray of Hope itself has been obscured.

                          * enter Commissar Joncha *

Joncha: Colonel, the Brother-Captain is deploying several squads of Space Marines to this location *gestures to a point on the southern continent of Pekka* and we think they're looking for the Demon, Dino'Doc.

Kuciwalker: Very well. While I have no tolerance for the Space Marines, we have the same mission - rid Pekka of Chaos. Commissar Joncha, you lead a contingent of Guardsmen to the surface near their location and look for Dino'Doc yourself. And no incidents!

                          * exit Joncha *

                          *several hours later*

                          Ned: Commissar Joncha -

Kuciwalker: - is probably requesting a Baneblade, now, I mean we've already deployed several infantry companies and one of armor, what could he want next?

Ned: Actually, sir, yes he is. He says he suspects there is a Demon nearby and he needs a Baneblade to destroy it.

Kuciwalker: *sigh* okay, deploy one of our Baneblades.

                          *a few minutes later*

                          Ned: Commissar Joncha -

Kuciwalker: - what does he want this time?

Ned: Nothing, sir, he reports he's under fire from several Space Marine turrets.

                          Kuciwalker: ****

                          Quote of the Match:

                          DinoDoc: is Kuciwalker even playing?
*ten seconds later a massive Imperial Guard army marches into the middle of the map*

Daemon Prince Dino'Doc: How goes the rituals to keep the Warp Storm stabilized during this endeavor, Asher?

Sorcerer Asher: Milord, it's still going strong and should keep the Warp Storms stabilized long enough to serve our purposes. The other part of our plan -

Dino'Doc: - "Our" plan? Who gave you permission to think of this enterprise as a partnership you insufferable fool!?!?

Asher: My humblest apologies, milord. Twas no intention for presumption on my part. As I was saying, the other part of your plan is continuing as we predicted. I have taken the liberty of engineering a confrontation between the Guardians of the decaying Imperium and our deluded "brethren," at the site of another base of our legion. The battle regardless, of its out come will aid in the collection of the blood necessary for the rituals to locate and activate the STC.

Dino'Doc: Ex-cellent! I shall go take command of the forces there myself to lead the operation to lend it credibility. If I'm successful in squashing the fools so much the better. Even if I loose, it brings us one step closer to completing the ritual.

                            * exit Dino'Doc *

                            *several hours later*

                            Asher: Milord?

Dino'Doc: ARRRRRRGGGHHH! I failed! But the blood was still collected, so all was not lost. This defeat is just a temporary setback and soon enough I will be drinking blood from the still beating hearts of my enemies. Victory will be a sweet nectar indeed.
