  • The Battle for the Ashes: who will win?

Ha ha - made you look

Yes its a cricket thread - Australia is in England for the most famous clash on the cricket calendar. Can England win back the Ashes at last?

5 tests, a one day series, heaven. The whole cricket world watches this one.

I thought we should have a thread on it.

    Post away cricket lovers.

I don't even know the rules to cricket, but it seems obvious to me that Australia will retain the Ashes.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I don't know. After all, the English side went 179/8 with Australia 79 and all out recently.

But that was Twenty20. A far shorter game than the regular cricket match.

                    3-2-2 count?

                    Don't you mean 3-2?

It's fine to say 3-2-2. You are just including the outs in the count. (though really no one does it)

I'll bet the bookies are hoping Australia's 4 tour losses on the trot will lead to more money for England at shorter odds.

Rumour has it the Bangladesh team was chaired off the ground by bookmakers after the match

I think Australia has done this deliberetly in an attempt to regain interest in cricket. They were winning every match and were threatened with the loss of live coverage on tv. Now that they are actually losing a bit, there is a great deal of interest in the side.

Going by form over the past couple of years, it should go to England- but I wouldn't rule out an upset if Warne and McGrath start producing the goods again.

It should be good. This is the strongest England side since the 80's (OK- that's not saying much....).

i read in the paper that only 14 people in this country had a bet on bangladesh to win, at 33-1 as well. wonder what odds you'd get on an england/bangladesh final in the series

in the one day games we've looked good, although we were a bit lucky yesterday, austrailia have looked mostly poor, and losing to a second division side isn't really good enough. in the tests i'd say we're better than this australian side and we're on home soil, but that's no guarantee.
